There have been a number of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware updates released lately for the international version of the new Samsung Galaxy S4, or model number GT-I9500. Users of the new handset can download and install the updates officially via Samsung's Kies application or through over-the-air (OTA) updates.
Many users have reported problems with installing official firmware
packages using traditional methods. This generally happens when the
device runs on a custom ROM or when the user isn't able to find the
update in his or her region, usually because the updates are rolled out
region by region, in phases, and the user isn't aware of that.
If you are a Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500) user and want to have the
latest Jelly Bean update installed on your device but cannot get it the
official way, a manual installation procedure is explained below. Users
will need to download the respective firmware package, according to the
region they belong to, and then flash it on their handset using a tool
called Odin.
